GrandMA 3 – Timecode

What is timecode?

Timecode is a technique to run light shows synchronous to the music. The timecode signal comes from an external device to trigger actions in our grandMA3 console. That means you can run your show automatically depending on the time of your timecode signal.

In the grandMA3 system we can handle two different types of timecode:

MIDI Timecode – The signal comes via the MIDI input at the back of the console.

SMPTE Timecode – The signal comes via the LTC audio input at the back of the console.

Just connect your timecode sender to one of these interfaces and run your timecode. The console will automatically recognise the signal. On the next pages we will learn how to setup the timecode show.

Setup a simple timecode show

In the video you will learn how to setup a small and simple timecode show. There are a lot more functions and options regarding the timecode in grandMA3. Those will be covered in the advanced training.

Let´s keep it simple for now!
